Independent Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. alleged on Monday that former President Donald Trump’s associates proposed he join Trump’s ticket as the vice-presidential candidate, an assertion the Trump campaign denies.
Kennedy shared on the social platform X, “President Trump calls me an ultra-left radical. I’m soooo liberal that his emissaries asked me to be his VP. I respectfully declined the offer.” He continued, “I am against President Trump, and President Biden can’t win. Judging by his new website, it looks like President Trump knows who actually can beat him.”
A top aide to Trump, Chris LaCivita, contested Kennedy’s claim the same day, emphasizing on X that the idea of Kennedy being approached for such a role was baseless. “Re-upping this from January … was true then and it’s true now,” LaCivita stated, calling Kennedy “a leftie loonie that would never be approached to be on the ticket..sorry!”
Further intensifying the campaign rhetoric, Make America Great Again Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC, introduced a website on Monday. It brands Kennedy as a “radical liberal” and outlines his positions on issues like taxes, gun laws, and climate policy. This move aligns with Trump’s strategy of painting Kennedy as a far-left candidate.
Trump himself has been vocal on social media, attacking Kennedy’s ideological stance. In late March, Trump said on Truth Social, “RFK Jr. is the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far. He’s a big fan of the Green New Scam, and other economy killing disasters. I guess this would mean he is going to be taking votes from Crooked Joe Biden, which would be a great service to America.”
