Authorities in Alabama have revealed that an explosion occurred outside the office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall in Montgomery, with officials confirming the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday.
In a statement, Marshall disclosed that an explosive device had been set off outside his office premises without causing any injuries to staff or personnel. The nature of the explosive and its intended purpose remain unclear, as the statement refrained from delving into specifics about the device or the rationale behind the act.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency ultimately found the explosive following a call about a suspicious package near Washington Avenue and South Bainbridge Street. In a statement, the agency said, “It was determined that the suspicious package was an explosive device that was detonated in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 24.”
This comes following a contentious decision by the Alabama Supreme Court, which declared frozen embryos should be regarded as people, leading several in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinics to pause their services. Amidst growing concerns, Alabama’s Attorney General said he did not plan to enforce this ruling against IVF families or providers. Meanwhile, state legislators are actively seeking measures to safeguard IVF treatments.
