A suicide bombing in Pakistan targeting a police convoy has killed at least four people and wounded 30.
According to authorities, a convoy transporting a polio vaccination team was moving near the city of Quetta (southwest Pakistan) when a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a police truck. The suicide bomber then detonated his car, causing a large explosion that killed a policeman, a woman, child and wounded many others in the immediate area.
Police officials in Pakistan added that at least 15 officers were among the wounded, including another 15 innocent civilians.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban of Pakistan (A terrorist organization with Taliban roots) has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Pakistani Taliban did not disclose why it attacked the convoy of Polio workers, but for decades the organization has been attempting to overthrow Pakistan’s government and often carries out attacks against the military, police, and other government officials and buildings.
The terrorist groups’ general motive in Pakistan is to overthrow the government in an effort to change the country’s way of governing. The group argues that Pakistan should govern with strict Islamic laws, including Sharia law.
