The FBI has announced it foiled an attack targeting the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Some shit you should know before you read: AIPAC is a prominent lobbying organization in the United States that advocates for strengthening and expanding the US-Israel relationship. Operating as a nonprofit entity under US law, AIPAC engages in lobbying efforts to influence US foreign policy, frequently working with members of Congress and the executive branch to support policies that align with its mission. Praised by supporters for bolstering bipartisan ties between the US and Israel, AIPAC is credited with securing significant aid packages and fostering collaboration on defense and technology. However, critics argue that its influence skews US foreign policy in favor of Israel at the expense of other priorities, with some questioning its role in shaping debates on Middle Eastern policy.

What’s going on now: According to the FBI, Forrest Kendall Pemberton, a Florida resident, plotted an attack targeting the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) due to frustration with its political influence and his dissatisfaction with the “status quo.” Pemberton allegedly scouted a former AIPAC office in Plantation, Florida, intending to return armed with multiple firearms, including an AR-15 rifle. He told investigators that his plan involved harming individuals associated with the organization.

His father alerted law enforcement after finding a troubling letter in which Pemberton expressed “anti-authority” sentiments, discussed “stoking the flames,” and said goodbye to his family. Despite Pemberton’s intentions to carry out the attack, he ultimately decided against it. According to investigators, he “wasn’t ready” and chose to abandon his plan.

AIPAC reacts: In a statement, AIPAC said, “We will not be deterred by extremists in pursuing our mission to strengthen the relationship with America’s valued ally, Israel.”
