Pope Francis has called on Catholics in the US to vote in the upcoming November election, advising them to “choose the lesser evil.”

What’s the deal: While speaking to reporters on his way to Singapore, Pope Francis said, “In political morality, in general they say that if you don’t vote, it’s not good, it’s bad. You have to vote, and you have to choose the lesser evil. What is the lesser evil? That woman, or that man? I don’t know. Each one, in his or her conscience, must think and do this.”

When a reporter asked Pope Francis if he had any advice for American voters faced with choosing between a candidate supporting abortion and another who wants to deport millions of migrants, he replied, “Both are anti-life. The one who throws out migrants and the one who kills babies — both are against life.”

Pope expands on Abortion: Pope Francis also reiterated his stance on abortion, arguing that having an abortion is committing “murder.” He said, “To have an abortion is to kill a human being. The Church does not allow abortion because it is to kill, it is murder. It is murder. And this we have to be clear about it.”
