In the recent 2024 elections, voters in ten states considered ballot measures related to abortion rights, resulting in a mix of outcomes:

New York: Voters passed a measure to solidify abortion protections, reinforcing the state’s commitment to reproductive rights.

Florida: Failed to pass an amendment to overturn the state’s six-week abortion ban, with 57% support falling short of the 60% threshold needed for approval.

Missouri: Previously one of the most restrictive states, Missouri voters passed an amendment allowing abortion until fetal viability, potentially reversing its near-total ban.

Montana: Voters approved protections for abortion rights, aligning with a trend of red and purple states expanding reproductive freedoms.

Arizona: Voters rejected the state’s 15-week abortion ban in favor of protections up to fetal viability, opposing a proposed “compromise” on abortion limits.

Nevada: Approved an abortion protection amendment; however, it requires a second approval in 2026 to take effect.

Colorado: Passed an amendment overturning a ban on using public funds for abortion, which now allows state funding for abortion services through Medicaid and for state employees.

Nebraska: Voters chose to codify the state’s existing 12-week abortion ban, keeping current restrictions in place while allowing room for additional limits.

Maryland: Approved an amendment to safeguard abortion access.

South Dakota: Rejected a measure to legalize abortion in the first trimester, as reproductive rights advocates found the proposal insufficiently protective.
