Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) has said he is “confident” that Vice President Kamala Harris understands the issue at the border and could solve it if elected.
What he said: During an interview on Face the Nation, Senator Kelly was asked if he believed Vice President Harris understood the issues at the border amid criticism of inaction from Republicans. He said, “Yes, she does, absolutely. And I think when we talk about some of the Democrats in the United States Senate that weren’t really getting it in 2022 now they get it. We would get the legislation passed, and then we could move on to some of the other stuff that Vice President Harris has talked about, which is comprehensive immigration reform.”

CBS Polling: During the interview, Senator Kelly was also asked about his thoughts on a CBS poll that found 48% of those polled believed that illegal migration would increase if Vice President Harris wins the election. He responded, “With regards to the border, just like so many other issues, the contrast between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris could not be more clear. Kamala Harris has supported our bipartisan border security bill that Donald Trump told Senate Republicans to run away from. So she’s been working on this issue. Border crossings on the Arizona border are down substantially. She’s been focused on this issue where the former President is trying to undermine our border security.”
Another view: Critics argue that Vice President Kamala Harris has struggled to manage the US-Mexico border effectively. Despite being assigned by President Biden to tackle the root causes of migration and collaborate with other nations, illegal crossings reached a record high during the Biden administration. Although Harris engaged with Central American countries, these efforts saw limited success, with major progress coming only after President Biden’s executive action three months ago.
