A Virginia man has been charged with making death threats against Vice President Kamala Harris on social media.
What’s the deal: Frank Lucio Carillo from Winchester, Virginia, has been arrested for making death threats against Vice President Kamala Harris on social media. Carillo, who could face up to five years in prison if convicted, posted 20 threats on a GETTR account under the username “Joemadarats1.”
What he said: Carillo’s GETTR account included threats like “Kamala Harris needs to be put on fire alive I will do it personally if no one else does it I want her to suffer a slow agonizing death.” Another post included a threat that said, “I will cut your eyes out of your Fucking head and will make sure you suffer a slow agonizing death.” Another post said the Vice President is “going to regret ever trying to become president because if that ever happened I will personally pluck out her eyes with a pair of pliers but first I will shoot and kill everyone that gets in my way that is a fucking promise.”
Additional information from the Justice Department: According to the DOJ, the “FBI searched the “joemadarats1” user account and discovered approximately 4,359 posts and replies made by the user targeting various public officials including, but not limited to, President Joseph Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and FBI Director Christopher Wray.”
Timing: Carillo’s threats against Vice President Kamala Harris mostly came days after President Biden announced he would not seek reelection and expressed support for Harris.
Comments made to the FBI: After being arrested, Carillo told law enforcement that the arrest was “ridiculous, for a comment.” He also said, “This is all over a comment, huh?”
