Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign has raised $81 million within 24 hours of President Joe Biden’s announcement that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsing her.
More on the funds: According to Kamala Harris’s campaign, the $81 million raised in 24 hours came from roughly 888,000 donors. The campaign also reported that 60% of those contributing were first-time donors in the 2024 election cycle. Additionally, 43,000 people committed as recurring donors, with over half making weekly donations.
A new record: The $81 million haul has set a new record for the largest single-day fundraising total in presidential history. Previously, Donald Trump held the record, having raised nearly $53 million in 24 hours following his legal convictions in New York.
Statement from Harris campaign: A campaign spokesman said, “The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections. Already, we are seeing a broad and diverse coalition come together to support our critical work of engaging with the voters who will decide this election.”
Digging Deeper: Due to President Biden’s endorsement of Kamala Harris, his campaign has confirmed the transfer of approximately $96 million in campaign funds previously earmarked for his re-election.
