The head of the Republican National Committee (RNC) has said that he is “very comfortable” with the security plans put in place for former President Donald Trump ahead of the Republican National Convention following a recent assassination attempt.

RNC Chair Michael Whatley, said, “We feel very comfortable that we’re working with the Secret Service; we’re working with 40 different law enforcement agencies in terms of what that security is going to look like. And this is going to be a facility, where we’re going to be able to have 50,000 delegates and alternates and guests and members of the media, who are going to be here and… who are going to be safe.”

Whatley also stressed the need for unity and support, saying, “I think unity is obviously very important. I think strength is obviously very important, but right now, this morning, I think politics is secondary. I think right now we need to be praying for these families that have been affected, I think we need to be grateful that President Trump is alive and is actually going to be there.” He added, “We need to be praying for these families that have been affected, I think we need to be grateful that President Trump is alive and is actually going to be there.”

The rally shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, where shots were fired at Trump, has prompted intensified security efforts surrounding Trump’s security detail. Trump has confirmed he plans to attend the convention despite the incident. “I am looking forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin,” Trump said in a statement.

The shooting resulted in the death of the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, and a spectator, with two others critically injured. The FBI has yet to identify a motive for the attack
