James Biden testified before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, claiming that President Joe Biden “never had any involvement or any direct or indirect financial interest” in his business activities. This statement was given during an impeachment inquiry led by Republicans, who have alleged the president’s involvement in his family’s business dealings, suggesting potential corruption.
During his testimony, James Biden said, “I have had a 50-year career in a variety of business ventures. Joe Biden has never had any involvement or any direct or indirect financial interest in those activities. None.” He further clarified his efforts to maintain professional independence from his relationship with his brother, adding, “I have always kept my professional life separate from our close personal relationship. I have never asked my brother to take any official action on behalf of me, my business associates or anyone else.”
James Biden also addressed accusations related to financial transactions, including two checks he issued to President Biden (one for $200,000 and another for $40,000), which Republicans have scrutinized as part of an alleged bribery scheme. James Biden claimed the $200,000 check, described as a loan repayment, was unrelated to any foreign business dealings. Similarly, he refuted claims surrounding a $40,000 transaction linked to a deal with a Chinese energy company, saying, “My brother played no role, was not involved with, and received no benefits from my work with” the company.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, a leading Democrat on the Oversight Committee, echoed this absence of evidence, noting, “I have heard nothing indicating that Joe Biden had anything to do with the business ventures of Hunter Biden or James Biden.”
