Two teenagers have been injured following a school shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado, where a student opened fire on campus before taking his own life.

Getting into it: Authorities say the shooting unfolded just after 12:24 p.m. on Wednesday when the suspect, identified as 16-year-old Desmond Holly, arrived at Evergreen High School armed with a revolver and ammunition. Holly moved through multiple areas of the campus, firing shots both inside and outside the building. Two students were struck and critically injured, and another student was later hospitalized with injuries sustained while fleeing the scene. Law enforcement officers arrived within minutes but did not fire any shots as Holly turned the gun on himself.

Investigators believe Holly was “radicalized through an extremist network,” though officials have not yet disclosed the nature of that ideology or group. Evidence collected from his phone and personal belongings reportedly points to extremist content, and authorities have obtained warrants to search his home, locker, car, and social media accounts for further information.

As of now, there is no confirmation regarding whether Holly targeted specific individuals or acted randomly, and the motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

In a statement, Governor Jared Polis called the shooting “devastating” and pledged the support of state resources to assist families, victims, and the broader community. “Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation,” he said.
