The FBI has released new details about a thwarted plot to attack the White House during a UFC event attended by President Trump, with five men now charged.

Getting into it: FBI Director Kash Patel announced last week that the Justice Department had charged the men over an alleged plan to strike the “UFC Freedom 250” event held on the White House South Lawn last Sunday, which Trump attended on his 80th birthday. Officials say the group plotted to strap explosives to drones and use them to spark an evacuation, then have snipers fire on fleeing officials, with a second phase that involved rushing the White House gate. Arrests spanned four states, and investigators identified 23 people in a potential network.

The plan began to unravel when the parents of 19-year-old Tycen Proper called police out of concern and surrendered his weapons. Proper, hospitalized on a homicidal-ideation hold, allegedly admitted to the plot, and his phone led agents to the others, including alleged ringleader Abraham Alvarez, who used the alias “Shepherd.” Each of the five faces up to life in prison if convicted.

The group allegedly identified targets including five members of Congress, among them Senator Marsha Blackburn, singled out over perceived ties to pro-Israel lobbying, and also discussed power grids. Investigators say the plotters were driven by anti-government and antisemitic grievances, citing the handling of the Epstein files, data centers’ water use and Israel’s influence over US politics.

This all comes as acting Attorney General Todd Blanche vowed aggressive action against those who plan violence, while Vice President JD Vance said that the plans were “not that advanced” and that none of the men had even made it to DC as the fights were going on.

The foiled plot adds to a string of security threats around Trump, who has survived multiple assassination attempts.
