At least 10 people have died after a terrorist attack targeting the headquarters of Pakistan’s paramilitary Frontier Corps.

Getting into it: The attack, which took place on Tuesday in the southwestern city of Quetta, began when a vehicle carrying as many as six terrorists pulled up to the gate of the Frontier Corps regional headquarters. CCTV footage from the area showed the car stopping in front of the compound before exploding. Officials said that before detonating their vehicle, the militants opened fire on the compound, sparking a heavy exchange with security forces. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told reporters that “six attackers were involved in the assault, and all of them were killed by the security forces.”

Authorities confirmed that the explosion killed at least 10 people (two members of the security forces and eight civilians), while more than 30 others sustained injuries from shrapnel, glass, and the force of the blast. Witnesses described the blast as so powerful that it shattered windows across nearby neighborhoods and could be heard miles away.

Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack. He said, “Terrorists cannot break the nation’s resolve through cowardly acts, and the sacrifices of our people and security forces will not go in vain.” President Asif Ali Zardari also denounced the bombing, accusing “misguided extremists” of working on “India’s agenda,” though he offered no evidence to support the claim.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but suspicion has fallen on Baloch separatist groups such as the Baloch Liberation Army, which frequently target security installations in the province.
