Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that, despite actions by the Trump administration to halt US foreign aid, US military aid to Ukraine has continued uninterrupted.
Some shit you should know before you read: Shortly after the Senate confirmed Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he announced a 90-day pause on all new foreign aid grants and obligations, aligning with an executive order signed by President Donald Trump to reevaluate US foreign assistance programs. The directive halted funding through the State Department and USAID, citing the need to ensure that foreign aid policies are effective, non-duplicative, and consistent with Trump’s “America First“ foreign policy objectives. Rubio’s move left uncertainty about the future of US aid to Ukraine and other nations, particularly as Ukraine relies heavily on American military support.

What’s going on: While speaking to reporters in Kyiv on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that US military aid to Ukraine has not been halted despite recent policy changes by the Trump administration. He said, “I am focused on military aid; it has not been stopped, thank God.” Zelenskyy also reiterated how dependent Ukraine is on the United States military aid, noting that 40% of Ukraine’s military needs come from the United States.
Notably, Zelenskyy did not clarify whether humanitarian aid, which has been vital for Ukraine’s war-torn regions, was also affected by the recent 90-day pause on foreign aid obligations announced by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Humanitarian assistance has played a significant role in addressing the dire needs of displaced civilians, including food, medical supplies, and emergency housing, but the future of this support remains uncertain.
This all comes as President Donald Trump has frequently criticized the large amounts of aid the US provides to Ukraine, calling it excessive and urging European nations to bear more of the financial burden. Trump has questioned whether US support aligns with American interests, previously stating, “The United States is giving way too much compared to others.” He has also expressed skepticism about Ukraine’s approach to resolving the war with Russia, suggesting that Zelenskyy should have struck a deal with Vladimir Putin to avoid the war.
