White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has pushed back on criticism from Elon Musk regarding President Trump’s announcement of a $500 billion AI infrastructure project, “Stargate.”

Some shit you should know before you read: Two days ago, President Trump announced a $500 billion AI infrastructure project alongside OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, aiming to establish the United States as a global leader in artificial intelligence while creating 100,000 new jobs. Dubbed “Stargate,” the initiative promises to remove regulatory hurdles and build advanced data centers, with an initial $100 billion reportedly secured. However, Elon Musk quickly criticized the project on his social media platform X, claiming it lacked the necessary funding and alleging that SoftBank had secured less than $10 billion. Musk’s remarks escalated an ongoing feud with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who dismissed the claims on X and invited Musk to visit the first operational site, further fueling their public rivalry.

What’s going on now: During an appearance on Fox News, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the $500 billion AI infrastructure project and dismissed Elon Musk’s criticism. She said, “That was a big announcement for our country, for our industries here at home, and also for the American people, because this is going to create a minimum of 100,000 jobs here in the United States of America. The American people should take President Trump and those CEOs’ words for it. These investments are coming to our great country, and American jobs are coming along with them.”

Leavitt avoided directly addressing Musk’s accusations about insufficient funding but added that “Trump is very excited about this infrastructure announcement.”

This all comes as Musk has also faced criticism from within Trump’s MAGA base, with figures like Steve Bannon accusing him of undermining the administration’s efforts for personal reasons. Bannon, in an interview with Politico, blasted Musk for bringing “his own personal vendetta” into the discussion, referencing Musk’s ongoing feud with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. “I’ve never seen action like this in my life,” Bannon said, calling on White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles to “sit him down” and “sort it out immediately.”
