President-Elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar has warned that states and cities refusing to cooperate with the administration’s mass deportation plans could face cuts to federal funding.

What’s the deal: During an interview on Fox News with Mark Levin, Tom Homan, President-Elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar, said that federal funding cuts would target states and localities that refuse to cooperate with the administration’s deportation plans. While speaking to Homan, Levin said, “If you have a governor who says, ‘I’m not gonna cooperate. I’m gonna block you,’ well, then, federal funds should be slashed to that state, and I mean hugely so.” Homan replied, “That’s going to happen, I guarantee you. President Trump will do that. You can hate Trump all you want, but you gotta love your community more than you hate President Trump.”

Homan continued, “President Trump has made it clear, we’re going to prioritize public safety threats and national security threats right out of the gate because they pose the most danger to this country. What governor or mayor doesn’t want public safety threats and national security threats out of their neighborhoods, out of their communities? That’s their number one responsibility.”

This development comes as President-Elect Donald Trump has outlined an aggressive plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, focusing on individuals deemed public safety or national security threats. Trump has vowed to deploy federal and state resources to carry out what his transition team calls the largest deportation operation in US history. According to Homan, the administration intends to use all necessary powers to prioritize the removal of illegal criminals, drug dealers, and human traffickers while claiming that such measures would ultimately lower costs for American families.

Opposition: In response, multiple Democratic governors have opposed the incoming administration’s deportation plans, pledging to protect their communities from what they see as harmful policies. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said, “If someone attempts to come for my people, you come through me.” Similarly, California Governor Gavin Newsom has vowed to stand against Trump’s initiatives, aligning with other Democratic leaders criticizing the administration’s approach.
