President-Elect Donald Trump has announced he is committed to working with the media while seeking to rebuild communication with journalists, even those who have been critical of him in the past.

What’s the deal: During an interview on Fox News, President-Elect Donald Trump emphasized the importance of a “free, fair, and open media” as vital to the success of the United States while expressing a willingness to work with journalists and media outlets, including those who he claims have treated him unfairly. He highlighted recent efforts to reopen communication, such as a meeting with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, which he described as a step in the right direction.

Trump stated that while he values fairness and openness, repeated bias or hostility from the media would not be tolerated. Trump added, “I am not looking for retribution, grandstanding or to destroy people who treated me very unfairly, or even badly beyond comprehension. I am always looking to give a second and even third chance, but never willing to give a fourth chance — that is where I hold the line.”

Trump’s statements come as he continues to pursue legal action against some media outlets, alleging biased reporting and defamation. He has filed lawsuits against CBS News, accusing it of editing a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris to portray her in a favorable light during the election, and against The New York Times, claiming the outlet has become a partisan “mouthpiece of the Democratic Party” and engaged in libel, seeking $10 billion in damages.
