A senior advisor for Vice President Kamala Harris has deleted his social media account after appearing to criticize President Biden following President-Elect Trump’s victory.
What’s the deal: David Plouffe, a prominent Democratic strategist and campaign advisor to Kamala Harris, deleted his X account on Thursday morning after posting the following message. He wrote, “It was a privilege to spend the last 100 days with Vice President Harris and the amazing staff led by Jen O’Malley Dillon, who left it all on the field for their country. We dug out of a deep hole but not enough. A devastating loss. Thanks for being in the arena, all of you.”
Some have interpreted Plouffe’s post as assigning partial blame to Biden, who had dropped out of the race earlier due to low approval ratings. The post quickly gained significant attention and criticism, leading Plouffe to deactivate his account.
Broader Democratic Concerns: The defeat of Harris, along with anticipated Democratic losses in both the Senate and the House, has intensified internal critiques within the party. Some Democrats have blamed Biden’s prolonged presence in the race for Harris’s disadvantage, while others argue Harris’s campaign focus may have been misaligned with voter priorities, particularly on economic issues.
Where shit stands: In addition to winning the White House, Republicans have secured at least 52 seats in the Senate (with Democrats losing three seats), giving them the majority.
In the House, Republicans currently hold 213 seats (five short of the majority at 218), while Democrats hold 200. With some races still too close to call, Decision Desk HQ projects an 85% chance that Republicans will retain control of the House, forecasting a final count of 221 seats for Republicans and 214 for Democrats.
