House Republicans are demanding President Biden’s resignation after his announcement not to seek reelection, arguing he is unfit to serve if he cannot run for another term.
House GOP Reaction: Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) insists Biden resign immediately, questioning his fitness to serve. He said, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough.” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) said, “If the Democrat party has deemed Joe Biden unfit to run for re-election, he’s certainly unfit to control our nuclear codes. Biden must step down from office immediately.”

Biden’s Announcement: President Biden announced he will not seek reelection, citing the best interests of his party and the country. He said, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
Endorsement to Kamala: Following his announcement to withdraw from the race, President Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. In his statement, he said, “I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
Democratic Pressure: Biden faced substantial pressure from within the Democratic Party to withdraw from the race, particularly following a poor debate performance. Over the past week, reports have surfaced suggesting that Biden was on the verge of pulling out, with top Democratic officials—including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Leader Chuck Schumer, and even former President Obama—urging him to step aside.
