Vice President Kamala Harris has addressed comments made by President Biden where he referred to Trump supporters as “garbage.”
Let’s bring you up to speed: Yesterday while speaking via video to VOTO Latino, President Biden criticized comments made by a comedian at a recent Trump rally in New York, where Puerto Rico was referred to as ‘garbage.’ In response, Biden stated, ‘They’re good, decent people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.’ President Biden later apologized, saying, ‘Earlier today, I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico from Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I could think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say.’

Harris comments: In a statement, Vice President Harris said, “First of all, he clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for. You heard my speech last night and continuously throughout my career. I believe that the work I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not. And as president of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans whether you vote for me or not.”
Republicans jump on it: Despite the apology from Biden, various Republicans have amplified Biden’s comments, noting that they are reminiscent of Hillary Clinton referring to Trump’s supporters as “deplorable.” Senator JD Vance reacted to the news yesterday, saying, “This is disgusting. Kamala Harris and her boss Joe Biden are attacking half of the country. There’s no excuse for this. I hope Americans reject it.”
