Former President Trump has denounced a federal judge’s order requiring Virginia to reinstate over 1,500 voters to the state rolls.
Let’s bring you up to speed: Back in August, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order that directed the removal of certain individuals from the state’s voter rolls, specifically targeting those who had self-identified as non-citizens or were otherwise deemed ineligible. Youngkin’s administration defended the move as necessary to uphold the integrity of voter rolls; however, the Justice Department and voting rights advocates challenged the purge, arguing it violated federal protections that prevent large-scale removals within 90 days of a federal election to safeguard against unwarranted disenfranchisement.
What happened today: In a ruling issued by District Judge Patricia Giles, Virginia was ordered to reinstate over 1,500 voters removed from the rolls following an executive order by Governor Glenn Youngkin. Judge Giles said that the purge violated federal law.
Trump’s pissed: Following the news, Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social and wrote, “Now, their truly Weaponized Department of ‘Injustice,’ and a Judge (appointed by Joe), have ORDERED the Great Commonwealth of Virginia to PUT NON-CITIZEN VOTERS BACK ON THE ROLLS. This is a totally unacceptable travesty, and Governor Youngkin is absolutely right to appeal this ILLEGAL ORDER, and the U.S. Supreme Court will hopefully fix it!
He added, “Only U.S. Citizens should be allowed to vote. Keep fighting, Glenn – AND REPUBLICANS IN VIRGINIA, KEEP VOTING EARLY! Democrats fire back: In a statement, the chair of the Democratic Party in Virginia said, “Donald Trump knows he can’t and won’t win Virginia; he is trying to exploit Glenn Youngkin’s illegal voter purge to satisfy his own sick obsessions. Kamala Harris will win Virginia convincingly, as Trump knows, and any visit from this deranged lunatic will only widen the margin.”
