A former FBI agent who was terminated following allegations of sexual assault and then hired to become an Alabama state trooper was sentenced to life plus 20 years in prison for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl over several years.
What’s the deal: Christopher Bauer was convicted and sentenced to life plus 20 years for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl over several years. His abuse of the girl began when she was just five years old and continued until 2021, when she told a friend, leading to an investigation and his subsequent arrest. In addition to his Alabama conviction, Bauer faces further child sex abuse charges in Louisiana.
How did he get hired after being fired by the FBI?: According to authorities, Bauer managed to join the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency as a state trooper in 2019 by using a forged letter to hide his dismissal from the FBI, which had occurred after allegations surfaced that he raped a coworker at knifepoint.
What the district attorney is saying: In a statement, Mongomery District Attorney Daryl Bailey said, “It is always extremely disappointing when someone who is supposed to enforce and uphold the law commits a crime against the people they have sworn to protect. He is a bad apple – a depraved monster who abused his power to irreparably harm a vulnerable, innocent child.”
Extradition to Louisiana on more charges: According to authorities in Alabama, he will soon be transferred to Louisiana, where he faces additional child sex abuse charges.
