Stellantis is recalling 24,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans due to a potential fire risk linked to an abnormality in the high-voltage battery pack. Those who own the vehicles are being advised to park them outside and avoid charging them until the company develops a fix.

The details: Stellantis is recalling approximately 24,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans from 2017 to 2021 due to a fire risk caused by an abnormality in the battery cells. The recall affects 19,000 vehicles in the United States, 3,000 in Canada, and 1,700 outside North America. According to the company, at least seven fires have been tied to the vehicles, with four occurring while the vehicle was off and three while charging.

Investigation and Fix: Stellantis is investigating the cause of the fires and developing a software update to detect the issue. If the software detects a widespread problem, dealers around the world will begin replacing the high-voltage battery at no cost to the owners.

Digging Deeper: This comes after US regulators launched an investigation into the company six months ago, following a recall of 17,000 vans in 2022. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, they are reviewing the effectiveness of the recall and attempting to understand the cause of the battery fires.

Communication with Owners: Stellantis will notify owners through mail starting July 24. Owners can also check the status of their vehicle on the Mopar recalls website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) site using their vehicle identification number (VIN)
