A top Russian official has condemned the recent statements from NATO members regarding the potential deployment of long-range weapons systems in Ukraine, labeling them as a “dangerous escalation.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov criticized the discussions at the NATO summit, particularly highlighting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s call for the US to lift restrictions on the use of American-supplied weapons. While speaking to the press, Peskov described the NATO summit’s outcomes as “highly provocative.” He added, “We see statements by representatives of some capitals, London and so on, who do not see any restrictions in this regard. And we see countries that are trying to keep some kind of the balance and say that they are against such easing of the terms for the use of long-range missiles. As for increasing this firing range, this is pure provocation, a new, very dangerous escalation of tension.”

This development comes after a joint news conference with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for NATO countries to allow Ukraine to strike deeper within Russia. Zelensky said, “If we want to win, if we want to prevail, if we want to save our country and to defend it, we need to lift all the limitations.”

Peskov Comments on Biden’s remarks about Putin:
Addressing President Joe Biden’s comments about Russian President Vladimir Putin, which included calling Putin a “murderous madman,” Peskov said they were “absolutely unacceptable.” He added, “It is impermissible for a head of state to speak so disrespectfully of another head of state.” Peskov also declined to comment on Biden’s age and verbal missteps, calling them an “internal” US issue.
