A court-appointed bankruptcy trustee has indicated plans to sell off Alex Jones’ Infowars media empire to pay some of the $1.5 billion he owes to families of the Sandy Hook school shooting victims.
In a recent court filing, trustee Christopher Murray announced his intention to shut down Infowars’ owner, Free Speech Systems, and liquidate its assets. This decision follows a bankruptcy judge’s ruling last week, ordering the liquidation of Jones’ personal assets to compensate the victims of the misinformation he spread about the 2012 shooting in Connecticut. Murray’s emergency motion outlined plans to “conduct an orderly wind-down” of Infowars and sell its holdings.

Murray’s filing also requested a judge to halt the Sandy Hook families’ efforts to collect their payments from Jones, arguing that such actions would disrupt the orderly sale of Free Speech Systems. He warned that seizing funds from the company could plunge the business into chaos, advocating for an orderly liquidation process instead.
The bankruptcy proceedings for Jones and Free Speech Systems commenced in 2022, after Jones was mandated to pay the massive sum in multiple defamation cases. Despite the bankruptcy filings, a judge said last year that Jones would remain liable for the settlement. However, the Sandy Hook families have yet to receive any compensation due to the ongoing bankruptcy process.
Jones has continued his Infowars broadcasts amid the bankruptcy but has expressed expectations that the platform will be shut down soon. Though the details remain unclear, he has pledged to continue his show on a different platform or as an employee under new ownership. Speaking to reporters, Jones stated, “This is probably the end of Infowars here very, very soon. If not today, in the next few weeks or months. But it’s just the beginning of my fight against tyranny.”

Jones falsely claimed for years that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged as part of a conspiracy to limit gun rights, leading to severe harassment and death threats against the victims’ families. Years later, Jones admitted that he was wrong about the shooting and said there were no paid crisis actors at the school, something he claimed on his show days after the shooting occurred.
