A US Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint over the weekend while President Biden was in Los Angeles for a high-profile fundraiser.
The incident occurred in Tustin, California, last Saturday as the Secret Service agent returned from a work assignment. According to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, the agent was confronted by an armed suspect, leading the agent to discharge their service weapon. Fortunately, the agent was not injured, but it remains unclear whether the suspect was hit.
Tustin Police reported that the suspect and their vehicle, described as a 2004-2005 silver Infiniti, have not been located as of Monday afternoon. Authorities are seeking public assistance in identifying the suspect. When officers arrived on the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m., they found that the agent’s bag had been stolen. Some of the stolen belongings were later recovered in the area.
It is still unclear whether the agent was part of President Biden’s protective detail during his visit to California for the Democratic fundraiser. The event, hosted by late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel, featured appearances by former President Obama and actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts, raising nearly $30 million.
