President Biden’s reelection campaign set a new fundraising record, raising $28 million at a star-studded event in Los Angeles.
After traveling across the world for the G7 and making a brief stop in Washington, DC, President Biden arrived in Los Angeles to join former Presidents Obama, Clinton, and comedian Jimmy Kimmel. George Clooney and Jennifer Roberts hosted the event at the Peacock Theatre, and attendees paid between $250 and $500,000 a ticket.
The star-studded guest list included Keegan-Michael Key, Mandana Dayani, Connie Britton, Misha Collins, Jeri Ryan, Jonathan Del Arco, Blake Cooper Griffin, and Adam Met. This event follows a similar fundraiser in March at Radio City Music Hall in New York, where Stephen Colbert moderated a discussion with Biden, Obama, and Clinton, raising $26 million.
During the event, Biden, Obama, Clooney, and Roberts participated in a moderated discussion with Kimmel, focusing on healthcare. Kimmel, a vocal advocate for the Affordable Care Act since his newborn son’s heart surgery in 2017, expressed his excitement in a fundraising text: “It’s Jimmy Kimmel. I’m interviewing President Biden and President Barack Obama — with special guests George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and more — and you’re invited. Trump will hate this, so let’s do it!”
Despite Biden’s impressive fundraising efforts, former President Trump has significantly outraised him. Trump outpaced Biden’s New York event with a $50.5 million fundraiser in Florida and raised $141 million in May, bolstered considerably by contributions following his conviction in New York.
