Salem Media Group, a conservative media outlet involved in the book and movie 2,000 Mules, which claimed the 2020 election was stolen, has issued an apology and stopped distributing the book and film.

In a statement on its website, Salem Media Group, Inc. apologized specifically to Mark Andrews, a Georgia voter who they say was falsely depicted as illegally voting in “2,000 Mules.” The Georgia Bureau of Investigation cleared Andrews of wrongdoing, noting that he was legally dropping off ballots for his family. Andrews subsequently filed a defamation lawsuit against Salem, Dinesh D’Souza, and the group True the Vote.

Salem settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed amount, apologizing for any harm that the allegations may have caused Andrews or his family. In a statement, Salem said, “It was never our intent that the publication of the ‘2000 Mules’ film and book would harm Mr. Andrews. We apologize for the hurt the inclusion of Mr. Andrews’ image in the movie, book, and promotional materials have caused Mr. Andrews and his family.” They added that the accusations made in 2,000 mules relied solely on representations made by D’Souza and True the Vote.

Protect Democracy, a nonprofit involved in defamation cases against former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, funded Andrews’ lawsuit.
