The United States Marine Corps has initiated a program to recruit more intelligence specialists to bolster its counterintelligence and human intelligence capabilities.

According to an official administrative message released in late April, the Marine Corps is targeting corporals, sergeants, and staff sergeants from other specialties to fill these critical positions. The opportunity is also extended to lance corporals and gunnery sergeants who meet qualification standards through a stringent screening process.

Historically, CI/HUMINT specialists played a pivotal role in conflict zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan, gathering essential intelligence on the ground. The focus is now shifting towards major global threats like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, reflecting a broader strategic realignment in the defense sector.

Incentives:
According to a bulletin, Marines who sign a six-year commitment could receive a $65,000 MOS-specific bonus plus an additional $40,000. Their duties would include identifying a wide range of threats against the United States, including those “engaged in terrorism, espionage, sabotage or subversion.”
