Poland’s President has called for Polish lawmakers to approve a comprehensive defense enhancement bill due to Russian threats.

Polish President Andrzej Duda’s draft bill proposes integrating general and operational military commands into a single entity, ensuring a unified approach in this NATO and European Union member state.

The legislation also outlines the establishment of new permanent defense plans that would enable the army to instantly react to sudden threats. An additional focus of the draft is to improve the efficiency of information flow and enhance coordination between Poland’s civilian and military authorities. According to the National Security Bureau (BBN), “The proposal provides for introducing changes in the military and non-military areas, strengthening the capabilities to counteract hybrid threats, subliminal threats and direct armed aggression.”

The BBN said the move was being made as “a response to changes in the security environment, including new forms of threats from the Russian Federation directed against Poland and other European Union and NATO countries.”

Russia responds:
The Russian Embassy in Poland has not directly commented on the matter to multiple news outlets. In a brief statement to Reuters, the embassy said it could not respond because it was “not aware” of “new” and “old” threats that Russia has directed towards Poland, other European nations, and NATO.
