Mexican officials have confirmed the release of Abraham Oseguera, the brother of notorious drug lord Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
“Don Rodo” was apprehended on April 21 in Autlan de Navarro, Jalisco, by a joint force of army soldiers and the National Guard police, marking what was considered a significant crackdown on organized crime activities.
During a regular presidential press conference, Security Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez reported that Judge Rogelio Leon had ordered Oseguera’s release, citing a lack of legal basis to continue his detention. Expressing her concerns, Rodriguez said she was surprised by the unexpected nature of the judge’s decision and mentioned that the Supreme Court of Justice had been contacted regarding the matter. However, they ultimately decided not to overturn the decision.
According to Rodriguez, US authorities have also sought details on Oseguera’s legal proceedings and any outstanding complaints as part of an ongoing joint effort against drug and arms trafficking.
More on CJNG:
CJNG, regarded as one of Mexico’s most formidable criminal organizations alongside the Sinaloa Cartel, is known for its extensive involvement in smuggling routes into the United States and various other illegal enterprises. Many also consider CJNG to be the most violent cartel in Mexico, often turning to extreme levels of violence to defend their operations.
