Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has issued a reminder to the US Speaker of the House about its commitments to Ukraine, emphasizing the critical stakes involved.

Speaking on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” Sikorski directly addressed House Speaker Mike Johnson, stating, “I would say as a former Speaker to a current Speaker, I would say, Mr. Speaker, it is the fate of Ukraine, it is the tortured people of Ukraine that beg you, but it is also the credibility of your country that is at stake.”

Sikorski reinforced the importance of US action following President Biden’s visit to Kyiv, where he assured Ukraine of unwavering US support. He said, “The president of the United States in wartime went to Kyiv on his historic visit, planted the standard of the United States in downtown Kyiv, saying, ‘You are an ally, we will do whatever it takes, and for however long it takes to help you.”

Sikorski highlighted the dire situation on the ground in Ukraine, where forces are outmatched in artillery and engaged in close-quarter combat due to a shortage of arms. “Around Avdiivka, they were outgunned in artillery 8-to-1,” he revealed, stressing the immediate need for the supplemental aid package to pass.

This comes as a significant aid package for Ukraine, crucial for its defense against Russia, is currently stalled in the US House of Representatives, with Speaker Johnson hesitating to bring it to a vote due to a lack of border security measures. The delay in passing the foreign aid package, which includes $60 billion for Ukraine, has left the country’s support in limbo, despite the Senate’s approval of a $95 billion emergency defense spending bill.
