A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has rattled Herat, marking the third seismic event to strike the area this month.

The tremor, occurring at approximately 8 am local time on Sunday, disrupted the relative calm as residents were gradually moving back into their homes after the previous earthquakes. The epicenter, identified by the United States Geological Survey, was located roughly 60 miles northwest of Herat City.

This recent earthquake follows the devastating quakes on October 7, which resulted in significant loss of life and widespread destruction. Photos from the area show villages reduced to rubble, with thousands displaced.
