Several US citizens have been killed in terrorist attacks initiated by Palestinian militant group Hamas, while others remain missing, according to the White House National Security Council (NSC).

While expressing condolences, the NSC spokesperson stated, “We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and to the families of all those affected, and wish those injured a speedy recovery.” While the exact number of casualties remains undisclosed, the NSC emphasized its active coordination with Israeli partners and local authorities.

The situation intensified over the weekend as Hamas launched its most extensive assault on Israel in years. This multi-faceted attack comprised land invasions, air strikes, and rocket fire, leading to over 1,100 fatalities across both sides.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during a conversation on CNN’s “State of the Union,” confirmed reports of several Americans killed and some kidnapped. As per The Associated Press, Hamas and another Palestinian militant group, Islamic Jihad, collectively claim to have captured over 130 individuals, including Israeli military and civilian personnel. Islamic Jihad’s leader, Ziad al-Nakhala, said captives would only be released after the liberation of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

In response to these events, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a state of war against the Palestinian militants. Israel’s subsequent counteractions involved a series of airstrikes in Gaza.
