Elon Musk has unveiled xAI, an artificial intelligence (AI) company aimed at challenging OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
Musk, the tech mogul behind Tesla and SpaceX, has accused OpenAI of being “woke.” xAI’s mission, as stated on Twitter, is to “understand the true nature of the universe” by addressing the fundamental unanswered questions.
With a team comprising former employees from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Tesla, DeepMind, and the University of Toronto, xAI aims to “understand the true nature of the universe.” The company’s website reveals that Dan Hendrycks, director of the Center for AI Safety, is advising the project. Hendrycks, known for organizing an open letter expressing concerns about the existential risks posed by AI, shares Musk’s apprehensions.
Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but left in 2018 due to a conflict of interest tied to his AI work at Tesla. Since then, Musk has criticized OpenAI’s language bot, ChatGPT, alleging bias towards left-wing and politically correct views.
In an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Musk disclosed his plans to launch a competing chatbot called TruthGPT. He envisions TruthGPT as a “maximum truth-seeking AI” that aims to comprehend the nature of the universe.
