Exclusive: As 2023 begins, Mexico is starting the year with an unprecedented level of violence rocking the streets of both large and small towns across the country. While Mexican media and government officials address some of the violence, many cases go unspoken of and the images showing the reality are either censored or buried. Due to this, we have dedicated a member of our team to track the violence and create an ongoing report that will be updated when more comes in.
Attached you will find various acts of violence (almost all cartel-related) that have taken place in Mexico since December 29th, 2022. Some of these incidents have yet to be reported by Mexican media. Images attached to this monthly report will contain photos and videos that depict death. Extreme viewer discretion is advised.

Background:
Mexican police were called to the sounds of gunfire after three people (two men and one woman) were found shot to death inside their home in the city of Juventino Rosas. According to neighbors, gunshots were heard at 10:30 PM after multiple armed men stormed the home. One individual was able to escape through a back door as the men armed with rifles began shooting those inside the home. At this time, no arrests have been made, according to the state attorney general’s office.

A male without an arm was found dead in Nacajuca (Tabasco). According to police, the death was cartel-related. At the scene a cardboard sign was recovered and signed by members of CJNG.

In an image posted by a man presumed to be affiliated with CJNG, he wrote “Finally we killed this dog, at the time of Cuauhtémoc, he had already been saved 3 times, we killed him because he was the culprit of dismembering a girl the day the music entered Cuauhtémoc Colima, to fuck his mother the fucking fields, that’s how he called himself.”

Background:
According to Mexican media, four cartel-related attacks in the metropolitan area of Colima led to 3 people dead and four injured. In one of the incidents, a man was executed while at a restaurant located at the intersection of Avenida Ignacio Sandoval and Calle Octavio Paz. The area, considered an affluent upbeat shopping center, rarely sees violence at this magnitude. No arrests have been made. One witness says armed men wearing masks walked up a set of stairs and shot the man from behind. After falling to the ground, he was shot two more times.

Background:
Mexican Police found the body of a lifeless man that was murdered on Ayahualco street in Ciudad Renacimiento (Acapulco). According to witnesses, armed men wearing masks chased the man and shot him in the back. After falling to the ground, the armed men walked to the body and executed him with a gunshot to his head. Police have not arrested anyone involved and say they found three shell casings from a 9-millimeter handgun and two shell casings from an AR-15.

Three men were executed at Mirador De La Cumbre. According to information we’ve gathered, the three men were workers of a man who owed money to a local cartel.

Background:
The dismembered body of a man (the former commander of a police department) was found in Espinal, Veracruz (Mexico). Next to the mans head, torso, legs, and hands read a message put up by the cartel that killed him. Translation as follows: “There I leave you a good for nothing otherwise known as R-15 or Fernando Perez Vegaz alias pino known to be in charge of taking hostage and extortioning and charging territory to all the people from the mountains the same way he did to Pablo Porpilla after Pablo supported by giving money, (R15) he took him hostage to charge him a some of 2 million pesos and he shields himself behind him being a politician and businessman the good for nothing is corrupting the state police that delivers him… … to then kill them, keep supporting your … president of Chumatlán and your brother Edgar follows … … … …. And you Paulino Salinas president … … … … the city police for … same for the dirt that we left here.”

Two men were killed at a barbershop located in San Miguel. According to witnesses, armed men in a van and suburban opened fire at the barbershop. Police say the shooting was cartel related and no arrests have been made. The translation of the sign reads “That’s what’s happens for supporting the fag of Mamey and I suggest passing everyone that doesn’t understand and keeps supporting filthy Celaya and all of Guanajuato – El Señor Mencho ATT:CjNG. ELITE GROUP”

Video from a morgue shows members of the Sinaloa Cartel who were killed by police during the arrest of El Chapo’s son, Ovidio Guzman. These men were providing protection for Ovidio.

Background:
A man who reportedly owed money to a drug dealer was killed in Zalaton, Mexico. According to police, the suspects jumped out of a silver car and shot the man multiple times at point blank range. No arrests have been made.

Background:
A taxi driver working in Cuauhtémoc was gunned down outside his home. According to police, the 43 year old man was shot seven times. Witnesses say that a vehicle pulled up next to the taxi driver and fired at least 15 shots before speeding off. Police have not made an arrest. According to a CJNG associated social media account, the page claimed the man was selling large amounts of meth in an area controlled by the cartel.

Police in Acapulco recieved 911 calls after a man was shot and killed on the beach near a popular beach area called “hornos.”

A woman was found dead in the community of Josefa Ortiz (located in Colima). Witnesses say the woman was dropped on the side of the road from a red vehicle. No arrests have been made.

According to a cartel-related social media account, a woman was found dead in Colima after being shot multiple times. According to the account, the woman was a drug addict from the city who reportedly owed money to the cartel.

Background: The human remains of a man was found in the hills of San Jose de Guaymas. Police are investigating the finding as a homicide.

Background: Video shows moments after a group of armed men executed Samuel Buenfil Espinosa, Director of the Auxiliary police in Acapulco.

Background: A drive by shooting in Colonia Del Yaki left 2 men dead. In the photos, one man can be seen getting rushed to the hospital where he ultimately died while another is lifeless in the vehicle. Police have not made any arrests.

Background: The body of Yajaira Lizbeth Cardenas Preciado was recovered after she went missing. According to police, her body was recovered on a street where local government officials live.

Background: The body of 40-year-old Aidee Karina Rodriguez was found in Tamaulipas. According to police, her body had visible traces of violence.

Background: The dismembered body of the leader of a taxi driver from Veracruz was found in the Las Palmas neighorhood.
Translation:
“This is an example to all taxi drivers that if they try to support dirty “miclo.” The plaza has an owner and you are suppose to respect it. You forget that dirty motherfucker.”

Background: Armed attack left four men dead and two more injured after being attacked in an establishment located on 4th. Avenue of Quetzal City.

Background: Two bodies of men between the ages of 30 and 35 were found left in the Los Mangos neighborhood of Acapulco. According to police, both men had visible signs of torture, including one who had his lips completely removed. Both men were also found with restraints on their arms and legs.
Date: Feburary 1, 2023
Background: The bodies of three men and one woman were found left in the streets of Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas. According to police, all four bodies had signs of torture and had hats with the words “CJNG” on them (referring to Jalisco New Generation Cartel). In addition to signs of torture, officials also found gunshot wounds on all four bodies.
At the current time, no arrests have been made.
