Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has said that the recent attack on her husband may result in her decision to retire from Congress.
While speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Speaker Pelosi was asked if she had plans to retire if the republicans took the House following the midterm elections or because of the attack. Speaker Pelosi responded, “I have to say, my decision will be affected by what happened the last week or two.” When asked if she was referring to the attack on her husband, Pelosi responded, “yes.”
This all comes as Speaker Pelosi’s husband continues to recover from an attack by an intruder with a hammer. According to court documents filed by prosecutors, the intruder, David Wayne DePape, told police that he planned to kidnap speaker Pelosi, interrogate her, and break her kneecaps if she lied to him. Police reportedly arrived just as DePape struck Paul Pelosi with a hammer.
