Pakistan’s foreign minister has summoned the US ambassador after President Biden openly questioned the safety of Pakistan’s nuclear program.
During remarks at a speaking engagement Thursday, President Biden said Pakistan is “maybe one of the most dangerous nations in the world as it has nuclear weapons without any cohesion.”
Following President Biden’s remarks, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said he was surprised and “as far as the question of the safety and security of Pakistan’s nuclear assets are concerned, we meet all – each and every – international standard in accordance with the IAEA.” In addition, the foreign minister said that on his recent trip to the United States, the country’s nuclear program never came up between high-level meetings with state department officials.
