The son of former Honduras President Porfirio “Pepe” Lobo Sosa has been assassinated by a well-armed and coordinated team in the capital city of Tegucigalpa.

Security camera footage reviewed by police shows that Said and three other individuals left the nightclub and returned to their vehicles in a parking structure. At that point, a black truck with armed men pulled up, removed them from their cars, and executed all four.

In addition to Said, police have identified the other individuals as Luis Zelaya (a relative to the former head of the Honduran military), Salomon Vasquez (the son of a retired soldier), and Norlan Riveria (Said’s bodyguard).

Currently, police cannot identify the attackers and are asking the public to provide information. However, Gustavo Sanchez (the national police chief) alluded that MS13 could have conducted the murders.

Digging Deeper: The former Honduran President has been previously accused of accepting millions of dollars in bribes from a local drug clan known as the “Cachiros.” The Cachiros are rivals to MS13. In addition, the former president’s son, Fabio Lobo, was arrested in 2015 after he was caught trafficking cocaine alongside members of the Cachiros. This occurred when his father was still the president of Honduras.
