Former Representative George Santos, recently expelled from office, announced on social media his intention to file ethics complaints against several House colleagues.
Santos, who faced expulsion due to accusations of campaign finance violations and fraud, targets Representatives Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Nick LaLota (R-NY), and Rob Menendez (D-NJ) with claims ranging from insider trading to money laundering. He plans to submit these complaints on Monday.
Santos accused the following:
- Congressman Malliotakis: suspicious stock trading, alleging insider trading activities similar to those about Paul Pelosi, husband of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He questions the timing of her trades, correlating them with her joining the Ways and Means committee.
- Congressman Lawler: Santos raises concerns about potential money laundering, querying if Lawler is funneling campaign funds for personal gain.
- Congressman LaLota: Santos questions his attendance record at a tax-funded job while attending law school, suggesting potential misuse of public funds.
- Congressman Menendez: Santos seeks to probe Congressman Menendez’s relationship with his father, Senator Bob Menendez, who faces multiple federal charges related to corruption.
The lawmakers in question have responded to Santos’ allegations. LaLota’s spokesman Will Kiley dismissed Santos’ claims, emphasizing LaLota’s legitimate academic credentials compared to Santos’ fabricated ones. Menendez’s spokesman Michael Zhadanovsky also brushed off Santos’s complaints, referring to them as “Botox-fueled fits of rage.”
This development follows Santos’ heated exchange with Representative Max Miller (R-Ohio) on the Congress floor, where Santos labeled Miller a “woman-beater” in response to Miller calling Santos a “crook.”
Santos’ expulsion from Congress was a result of an Ethics Committee investigation that revealed extensive misconduct.
