President Donald Trump has indicated that Ukraine should be allowed to go on the offensive against Russia, arguing that victory is impossible without striking the aggressor’s territory.

Some shit you should know before you read: Back when President Biden was in office, the US and other Western nations initially imposed strict limitations on Ukraine’s use of Western-supplied weapons, prohibiting their deployment against targets inside Russian territory. This policy, aimed at avoiding direct escalation with Moscow, was a cornerstone of Biden’s cautious approach to the conflict. Critics argued that the restrictions left Ukraine at a strategic disadvantage, effectively tying its hands while Russia launched attacks from within its own borders with relative impunity. Toward the end of Biden’s term, under growing pressure from US allies and shifts on the battlefield, the administration began to ease these rules, allowing some long-range strikes under specific conditions. However, Russia has repeatedly warned that any Ukrainian use of Western-supplied weapons on Russian soil would cross a red line, suggesting it could view such actions as a coordinated attack by NATO-aligned powers.

What’s going on now: In a notable development, President Trump announced on Truth Social that Ukraine must be allowed to strike inside Russia if it hopes to win the war, breaking with past rhetoric that emphasized restraint. He wrote: “It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invaders country. It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defense, but is not allowed to play offense. There is no chance of winning! It is like that with Ukraine and Russia. Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND. How did that work out? Regardless, this is a war that would have NEVER happened if I were President – ZERO CHANCE. Interesting times ahead!!!”

Trump’s statement came hours after Russia attacked Ukraine with 574 drones and 40 missiles, one of its most intense bombardments to date. Among the targets was a US-owned electronics manufacturing facility operated by Flex near the Hungarian border.

The strike injured at least 15 people and severely damaged the plant, which produces household appliances like coffee machines and has no ties to military production. Ukrainian officials condemned the attack as a blatant strike on civilian infrastructure and a symbolic assault on American economic interests in Ukraine.
