The United States has carried out a wave of strikes targeting Houthi-controlled facilities in Yemen.

What’s the deal: In an announcement from US Central Command (CENTCOM), the United States confirmed that it conducted a series of precision strikes on Monday and Tuesday targeting key Houthi-controlled facilities in Yemen. The strikes focused on a command and control center, advanced weapons production and storage sites, coastal radar systems, and several cruise missiles and drones used in Houthi operations. These actions were a direct response to escalating attacks by the Iran-backed rebels, which included missile and drone attacks on US naval vessels, commercial ships in the Red Sea, and missiles launched toward Israel.

CENTCOM AIRSTRIKE

In a brief statement, CENTCOM said, “There were no injuries or damage to U.S. personnel or equipment in either incident.” They added, “The strikes are a part of CENTCOM’s effort to degrade Iran-backed Houthi efforts to threaten regional partners and military and merchant vessels in the region.”

The US strikes come after the Houthis launched a series of missile and drone attacks on Israel, including targeting Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport and a power plant near Jerusalem. The Iran-backed group claimed responsibility for these attacks, framing them as acts of solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. While most of the missiles were intercepted by Israeli defense systems, fragments caused minor damage, including striking a road near Jerusalem and damaging buildings in Tel Aviv. A Houthi military spokesman warned that their attacks would continue against Israel until they stop the war in Gaza.

A warning from Israel: Just days before the US launched its strikes, Israel issued a warning to Yemen and the Houthis during a United Nations Security Council meeting, stressing that continued attacks on Israel would result in severe consequences. Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said, “Let this be your final warning. This is not a threat. It is a promise. You will share the same miserable fate” as Hamas, Hezbollah, and other adversaries who had challenged Israel. He also warned that Israel can strike any target in the Middle East, including within Iran, if necessary.
