According to multiple reports, the United States is preparing to announce a $1.25 billion military assistance package for Ukraine.
What’s the deal: While the Pentagon has not confirmed the specifics, the $1.25 billion military assistance package is expected to include advanced munitions for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS) and the HAWK air defense system, along with Stinger missiles and large quantities of 155 mm and 105 mm artillery rounds.

The $1.25 billion package will come from the roughly $4.35 billion of military assistance the US still has available for further military aid to Ukraine. This drawdown authority allows the Pentagon to expedite the delivery of weapons and equipment directly from US stockpiles. Alongside these funds, the Biden administration also has $1.2 billion in the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative for longer-term contracts, which will provide additional weaponry and equipment in the future.
The package follows a $485 million humanitarian aid commitment from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and a $2.05 billion grant from the World Bank to support Ukraine’s social and economic stability amidst the ongoing conflict. The USAID funding, including $465 million directly from the agency and an additional $20 million through the World Bank’s PEACE program, is designated to cover social and humanitarian expenditures in Ukraine’s state budget.
