Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has come out in defense of President-elect Donald Trump and Hunter Biden, calling for both to be pardoned.

Let’s bring you up to speed: Both President-elect Donald Trump and Hunter Biden have faced significant legal battles that have sparked intense public debate. Earlier this year, Trump was convicted in New York on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, stemming from allegations that he orchestrated hush-money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to silence claims of an affair before the 2016 election. Meanwhile, President Biden just issued a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, who faced charges related to tax evasion and a 2018 gun purchase, including lying on a federal background check form and unlawful possession of a firearm while using drugs.

What’s going on now: During an interview on The View, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman stated that the cases against both President-elect Donald Trump and Hunter Biden were politically motivated and deserving of pardons. Fetterman said, “I think that it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated but I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump was political as well, too.” He continued, “In both cases I think a pardon is appropriate and I really think collectively that America’s confidence in these types of institutions have been damaged by these kinds of cases, and we cannot allow these types of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents.”

Reactions from The View co-hosts were mixed but largely supportive of President Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. Whoopi Goldberg defended the pardon, noting that as the sitting president, Biden has the right to make such decisions and suggesting the move was justified given the politicized nature of Hunter’s prosecution. Co-host Ana Navarro echoed this, arguing that Hunter was targeted because of his last name.
