Stephen Miller, a key architect of former President Trump’s immigration policies, will officially return to the White House as deputy chief of staff for policy in Trump’s second term.
Digging into it: Miller, who previously served as a senior adviser to Donald Trump during his first administration, was a central figure in crafting and implementing some of Trump’s most controversial immigration policies, including the family separation policy and the travel ban on some majority-Muslim countries. Known for his hardline stance on immigration, Miller has since continued his influence through America First Legal, an organization that has challenged Democratic policies in court.
In Trump’s upcoming administration, Miller will step into the role of deputy chief of staff for policy, where he is expected to lead an aggressive immigration agenda that includes mass deportations, restricting birthright citizenship, and potentially resuming construction of the southern border wall.
Vance reacts: In a brief statement, President-Elect Vance called Trump’s appointment of Miller “another fantastic pick by the president.”
