Israel’s Ministry of Defense has announced its plans to acquire 25 F-15IA fighter jets from Boeing.
What’s the deal: The deal, valued at $5.2 billion, will provide Israel with 25 F-15IA next-generation fighter jets from Boeing, with an option to acquire an additional 25. Financed through US aid, The F-15IA is expected to replace and supplement older models within the Israeli Air Force, specifically the aging F-15C and F-15D models. Delivery is set to begin in 2031, with Boeing supplying between four to six aircraft annually until the order is complete.
Digging into the F-15IA’s capabilities: The F-15IA is an advanced, next-generation fighter jet with formidable capabilities designed to meet a range of strategic mission requirements. This model boasts a flight range of approximately 12,000 nautical miles, allowing for long-distance operations and deep penetration missions. It can carry over 29,000 lbs of missiles and bombs, giving it one of the highest payload capacities in modern combat aircraft.
The aircraft is also equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar for superior tracking and targeting, a missile warning system, a digital cockpit with advanced helmet display for enhanced situational awareness, and fly-by-wire systems for improved maneuverability and control.
Israeli official reacts: In a statement, the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, retired Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir said, “This F-15 squadron, alongside the third F-35 squadron procured earlier this year, represents an enhancement of our air power and strategic reach capabilities that proved crucial during the current war. We continue to advance similar transformative agreements across all IDF domains – from air and naval forces to ground operations, intelligence, and beyond.”
Boeing reacts: In a statement, Ido Nehustan, the President of Boeing (in Israel), said, “Boeing takes pride in its longstanding partnership with Israel, a relationship that dates back to our nation’s establishment. The company will continue working with the US and Israeli governments to deliver the advanced F-15IA aircraft through standard military procurement channels.”
