The United States military has carried out a series of airstrikes in Syria, targeting ISIS terrorists.
What’s the deal: In an announcement, US Central Command confirmed that the US military conducted airstrikes in central Syria’s desert region on Monday evening, targeting Islamic State camps and killing up to 35 militants, including senior ISIS leaders (no names provided).
Notably, recent US airstrikes on Islamic State positions in Syria follow coordinated operations with Iraqi forces targeting ISIS strongholds in Iraq. Days before the strikes, the US and Iraq launched multiple raids aimed at dismantling ISIS operational networks and preventing any resurgence. In these raids, the US confirmed that senior ISIS officials were killed, and intelligence was recovered.
Following that operation, CENTCOM commander Erik Kurilla said the US and coalition partners would “aggressively pursue ISIS and other terrorists that pose a threat to US forces, allies, partners, and security in the region.”
Full statement from CENTCOM regarding airstrikes: US Central Command said their “forces conducted a series of strikes against several known ISIS camps in Syria, in the early evening of October 28, resulting in up to 35 ISIS operatives killed. The strikes targeted multiple ISIS locations in the Syrian desert, targeting multiple ISIS senior leaders. There are no indications of civilian casualties.”
They added that the “airstrikes will disrupt the ability of ISIS to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians, as well as US allies and partners throughout the region and beyond. CENTCOM alongside allies and partners in the region will continue to aggresively degrade ISIS operational capabilities to ensure its enduring defeat.”
