Despite warnings from the Justice Department about the legality of offering a million dollars a day to sign a petition in key swing states, Elon Musk has renewed these giveaways and funneled a significant amount of money into his Super PAC.

What’s the deal: According to filings with the FEC, Elon Musk recently contributed an additional $43.6 million to America PAC, a pro-Trump super PAC focused on driving voter turnout in key swing states. This series of October contributions brings Musk’s total support for the PAC to $118 million. America PAC has primarily directed its resources toward canvassing operations to strengthen former President Trump’s campaign efforts.

The giveaways: America PAC has some controversy with its $1 million daily sweepstakes targeting voters in swing states. The program, which incentivizes voters to sign a petition supporting free speech and gun rights, has raised legal concerns due to its unusual approach of high-value giveaways. The Department of Justice (DOJ) stepped in, warning that the sweepstakes could violate federal laws prohibiting payments for voter registration.

Despite this warning and reports of a possible pause, America PAC confirmed that the program was not formally halted, resuming with million-dollar payouts to participants in crucial battleground states like Michigan and Wisconsin.
