Elon Musk has announced that he would pay up to $1 million a day to a Pennsylvania voter who signs a petition supporting free speech and the right to bear arms.

What’s the deal: While speaking to voters in Pennsylvania, Musk announced he would be offering up to $1 million per day to those who sign a petition created by his America PAC, supporting free speech and the right to bear arms. The initiative, which is part of Musk’s efforts to boost Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, involves selecting one random signer each day to receive the $1 million prize leading up to Election Day. Musk is also offering $47 to voters in other battleground states for signing the petition, as well as for referring others to do the same. These financial incentives aim to mobilize voters and increase support for Trump in crucial swing states.

Concerns from the Governor: Reacting to the news, Pennslyvania Governor Josh Shapiro said, “I think there are real questions with how he is spending money in this race. How the dark money is flowing, not just into Pennsylvania but apparently now into the pockets of Pennsylvanians. [It] is deeply concerning.” When asked by a news anchor if Musk’s moves were legal, he said, “I think it’s something that law enforcement can take a look at.”

Shapiro added, “Musk obviously has a right to be able to express his views. He’s made it very, very clear that he supports Donald Trump. I don’t. Obviously we have a difference of opinion. I don’t deny him that, right, but when you start flowing this kind of money into politics, I think it raises serious questions.”

More on Musk’s PAC: Elon Musk’s America PAC was created to support key conservative values such as free speech, gun rights, and secure borders, with a primary focus on backing Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. Since its inception, the PAC has become a significant player in Trump’s reelection efforts, with Musk contributing $75 million to fund its activities.
